Emily Bruns is thrilled to be a part of the Policy Shop unit at the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Coming from the student success space at Chico State, Emily led department advising, recruitment, and retention efforts. During her time there, she successfully developed a peer mentor program specifically targeting transfer students in their first year. Emily also delivered curricula on how to navigate and be successful at the university.
In addition to her work in student success, Emily held a significant role on the academic senate at Chico State. In this capacity, she was responsible for developing campus-wide policies and responding to changes in higher education at both the state and federal levels. Emily’s engagement extended into the political world, where she held various leadership roles for the state democratic party. Emily’s passion for higher education can be traced back to her on-campus internship opportunity in the advising office during her undergraduate program. It was during this experience that she recognized the need for innovative policy solutions to ensure that students from all backgrounds have the support they need to feel successful. Emily holds a Master of Public Administration and Policy from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Chico.
